Pakistan:More players likely to be included in NCA camp

KARACHI: Pakistan chief selector Mohsin Khan on Monday said that six to seven players are likely to be included in the Phase-II of National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) Fast-track programme underway in Lahore.
“We feel that there are some players who should be called upon and we will provide them the chance in the second phase. Those will be spinners and all-rounders but there is a possibility that a batsman can be called upon too,” Khan told ‘The News’ on Monday.
Meanwhile, the selector added that a camp for wicketkeepers would also be arranged, since it is one of the most closely fought slots of the national team given the close competition between Sarfraz Ahmed, Adnan Akmal and Mohammad Salman.
He praised the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) strategy of staging such a high profile camp.
“The board policy to stage such camps during long international breaks is excellent because it will give coaches time to help players polish their skills, while the athlete would be able to learn as well. Such camps are good and the board will continue with this policy whenever there will be a gap,” he said.
He stressed that he and Ijaz Ahmed are working to counter minor mistakes of the batsmen so that they do not go onto become major flaws. He also said that he will only feel happy when the players will apply the new things in the international matches and will go onto perform well.
Khan, who is also a former Test player said that the country’s batsmen need to understand that the nation’s prayers are associated with them and they should not throw away their prized wickets.
