Reds and Greens shine in women’s cricket event
KARACHI: Karachi Reds and Karachi Greens won their respective matches in the first edition of JS Bank Women’s T20 Cricket Championship here on Wednesday at Moin Khan Cricket Academy.
Karachi Reds recorded a convincing six-wicket win over Karachi Orange in the first match of the day. Karachi Orange batted first in the match and managed just 52 runs before they were all bundled out in 14.1 overs. Reema and Kanwal Yousuf captured three wickets each and were later declared joint women of the match.
Karachi Reds in reply achieved the target in 11.2 overs with six wickets in hand. Nain Abidi scored 25 runs for the winning side.
In the other match, Karachi Greens registered a three-wicket triumph against Karachi Blues. Karachi Blues batted first in the match and scored 104-6 in allotted 20 overs. Javeria Wadood (47) was the top scorer for the side. Areeba captured three wickets for Karachi Greens.
In response, Karachi Greens reached the victory total in 19.3 overs with three wickets in hand. Kainat Imtiaz scored 46 runs for the victors in the match and earned woman of the match award.
The tournament carries a prize purse of Rs100,000. The final of the tournament will be played on Sunday.
