Fawad Ijaz Khan hails ICC ban

KARACHI: Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) has welcomed the ICC decision to ban political appointments and government meddling in cricket boards.
Fawad Ijaz Khan, the PVCA chairman, has requested the President Asif Ali Zardari to immediately appoint a new Ad-hoc PCB chairman, “who should be from the corporate sector with good academic and professional expertise with passion for cricket and he should be given a time frame of a maximum of six months instead of a year given by ICC to hand over the new democratic set-up of PCB by holding free elections”.
Fawad added: “We should follow the example of Sri Lanka where its sports minister has confirmed that they will abide by the decision of ICC of non interference of their government in their cricket board.
He stated that in the new set-up unlike at present the chairman and the chief executive officer should be two different persons. The chairman should only have a limited role and all operational affairs of PCB should be handled by a paid CEO,” he said.
