Pakistan:Sharjeel Khan guides Hyderabad Hawks to victory over Islamabad Leopards
KARACHI: Hyderabad Hawks’ Sharjeel Khan smashed a whirlwind half-century to propel his side to a three-wicket victory over Islamabad Leopards in their Faysal Bank Super-Eight T20 match at the Iqbal Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing a target off 165, Hawks got off to a rollicking start with the left-handed Sharjeel thumping fast bowler Rao Iftikhar in the very first over for two boundaries.
He then clubbed left-arm medium pacer Saad Altaf for a boundary and a six in the next over before his opening partner Azeem Ghumman joined the party with a boundary on the last ball of the second over.
Just as it seemed that the looked Hawks were cruising, Ghumman was run out for 11, when the score was 64-1 in 5 overs.
Spinner Imad Wasim was called on to bowl but he was treated with two consecutive sixes by Sharjeel. Sharjeel was finally dismissed by Zohaib Khan for 61 off 37 balls with fives sixes and as many fours. Meanwhile, Faisal Athar showed his class from the other end making a classy 24 with five boundaries before Zohaib sent him packing. The Hawks faltered after that as their batters continued return to the pavillion after playing some reckless strokes.
But Aqeel Anjum scored a patient 29 before being stumped as Hawks finally clinched victory with five balls to spare.
Earlier, the Leopards were all out for 164 in 19.2 overs. Zohaib Ahmed top-scored with 55 and his innings was laced with a six and five fours. Afaq Raheem contributed with 37.

On Friday night, off-spinner Haris Ayaz and medium pacer Tariq Haroon bowled brilliantly to guide Karachi Dolphins to a thrilling nine-run victory over Rawalpindi Rams. Set a target of 146, the Rams were off to a bad start as Awais Zia was caught behind in the first over.
