DDCA announces pensions for ex-cricketers
The Delhi & Districts Cricket Association have announced a pension scheme for former Delhi Ranji Trophy players and umpires who do not get pensions from the BCCI. Only players who have played 25 or more Ranji Trophy matches receive pensions from the BCCI, but the DDCA will now also cover cricketers who have played fewer games.
"Delhi cricketers who have played between one to four matches will receive a one-time payment of Rs 200,000, those who have appeared in four to 15 matches will be eligible for Rs 7000 per month while those who have played between 15 to 24 matches will get Rs 9000 per month," DDCA general secretary Sneh Bansal told the Times of India.
Cricketers who retired before 2003 will be eligible for the pensions, and the DDCA have drawn up a list of 64 cricketers and four umpires eligible for the payments. Delhi first-class umpires who have officiated in 15-29 matches will get a monthly payment of Rs 7000 and those who have officiated in over 30 games will get Rs 9000 per month.
