We tried our best to win, says Ms Dhoni
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni felt that his side did all they could to win the second Test against West Indies, which ended in a draw on Saturday at Kensington Oval here.
Dhoni said his side was naturally disappointed that they could not have earned a series-clinching victory, but they were not too concerned about missing the opportunity. Dhoni praised his side for their performance during a Test, which was dogged by rain. He singled out beanpole fast bowler Ishant Sharma for special mention.
“Right from the IPL, Ishant has bee, bowling in the right areas,” said Dhoni. “Everything, from seam positioning to rhythm has been perfect from him.
“That’s the reason he is up in pace and bounce. He’s been bowling with pace and in good areas and has been the pick of our bowlers. Zaheer shared a lot of his experience with him, and Sharma is now doing it with other quick bowlers.”
Dhoni was concerned however, that Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli had failed to shape-up in the first two Tests of the series.
“Murali is a good talent,” he said. “He is a good boy, spends a lot of time (in improving himself), studying what needs to be done. He would have had a good deal to learn from the last series (against South Africa) and the present series.
“(As for Virat), it’s a difficult one. Personally after his innings, between the break, you have to interact for (him), and tell him not to get bogged down.”
Dhoni refused to comment on his controversial dismissal in the first innings. The sport’s world governing body, the ICC, disclosed last Thursday that he was erroneously dismissed, following the wrong TV replay being shown to the third umpire during a review of a no-ball.
