PCB tries to cover up NCA issue

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials are trying to throw the issue of underperformers’ inclusion in the National Cricket Academy under the carpet, reliable sources told ‘The News’.
Several undeserving players were included in the NCA in the absence of PCB chairman Ijaz Butt and when the media highlighted the matter, the top officials in command got active and said that an inquiry will be called upon the unfair inclusion of the players.
“Our bosses are trying to hide this case,” a senior official told ‘The News’ on Friday. “They have a perfect chance to do that because all has been forgotten in the recent team’s selection issue and central contracts matter.”
The fast-track programme was arranged with a purpose of being a specialization camp but the governing board member Mir Haider Talpur made mockery of it by forcing the way for some undeserving players of his region.
The programme which was meant for spinners, all-rounders and middle-order batsmen saw a number of non-deserving players become a part of it. Five players of Hyderabad and three from Abbottabad region were added to nine of those in the camp who were originally named — Mir Ali Talpur, Mohammad Aslam, Imran Chandio, Aqeel Anjum and Zahid Mehmood (all from Hyderabad) while Khalid Usman, Adnan Raees and Wajid Ali (Abbottabad).
Chief selector Mohsin Khan had laid the blame on NCA management and said he knew nothing about these inductees, which did not go down well these officials working in the Lahore’s academy.
Later Director Game Development Intikhab Alam said that the players were included after consultation with the chief selector and they felt that the players could be called upon. Alam added that he will give a detailed explanation to clear his position in this case.
The most controversial induction is that of Talpur’s son Mir Ali Talpur, who is likely to be given A category contract for Hyderabad regional contracts. Mir Haider Talpur also helped non first-class player like Imran Chandio to get into this all-important camp.
